The Village -
Baydon is a hilltop village situated on the Marlborough Downs close to the border of Wiltshire and Berkshire and the M4 motorway. The Village has a population of about 500 people. Most work away from the village, although there are a number of small businesses based in the village and a few people who work on local farms.

Education -
There is a thriving Church of England V.A. School of 110 children, which is also the largest employer in the village. Breakfast and after-school clubs are successfully run by a well structured governing body. The School was inspected by OFSTED in 2008 and was declared ‘good’. The inspector for SIAS marked the School as ‘outstanding’.  Strong and close links exist between Church and School; some family services are held in the school.

Amenities -
The village has a combined post office and shop, also a pub. There are a number of active clubs and societies including: youth club, Brownies, Thursday Club (for senior citizens), WI, cricket club and pre-school groups.

St Nicholas’ Church -
St Nicholas’ Church is now the only Church in the village. The building dates from Norman times and is attractively maintained and well-loved in the community. It has its own burial ground in the churchyard.
Baydon has a retired Ordained Local Minister who lives in the village, also 2 Lay Pastoral Assistants. The PCC is made up of members with a variety of ages and backgrounds. A successful project was undertaken to improve the funding of the Church by encouraging planned giving. The last Quinquennial Inspection was carried out in 2010.
The Church has a service each Sunday. Besides worshippers from Baydon we attract several from Lambourn. The school is generally available for Church events but we do encourage use of the church for coffee mornings and other events. In the past, evening services have included services of healing for the Team.
Two children and three adults were presented for confirmation in 2010.
Children attending Communion services are encouraged to assist in the Preparation of the Table. Good rotas are maintained for readers, intercessors and Communion assistants.
